Alan Faneca hit the jackpot with the Jets earlier this week, when the offensive lineman signed a 5-year deal worth $40 million. Meanwhile, the dejected Dolphins fans hoping to land the former Steeler had to settle for ex-49er Justin Smiley, who signed with Miami for a similar 5-year deal, but only worth $25 million.

Smiley appeared on 790 The Ticket’s Jorge Sedano Show on Friday, to plead his case to the doubting Dolphins fans about his ability. And what better way to build yourself up by tearing others down:

“First of all, Alan Faneca is ancient. The guys is about 10 damn years older than me. Anyone, can pull some game film up. You watch all my game film and that’ll do the talking. (Bill) Parcells didn’t sign Faneca. They had the cap room, to do it & didn’t want to do it.”

And another thing that grinds Justin’s gears is the common practice to refer to NFL linemen as “big uglies”:

“I’ll tell you what, I’m tired of being called ugly. I’ve got a beautiful wife. I must be a good looking guy. My wife was an ex-49er cheerleader now. Come on! I don’t know what it is, maybe because we’re a little overweight? I consider myself a good looking fat guy. It’s the nature of the beast. It’s the nature of the business. Things have changed though. I would say we’re getting some love man. Look at the type of contracts we’re getting paid.”

He has a point - $25 million will make anyone look pretty. But things might turn ugly when Smiley & Faneca meet next season. And since they now play for division rivals, they’ll get to exchange pleasantries at least twice. Should be fun.
