The only sticking point is that whole little 1812 adventure that the US took into Canada. The British and Canadian militia kicked the US out and then burnt down the White House. According to Canadian history it's the only war the US has lost, while the US claims that it wasn't a war. I guess Manifest Destiny didn't really work out.
