Much as I appreciate you hyping an excellent last name (Battin), it's the Bataan Death March.
In 1942, the Japanese took 75000 American & Filipino prisoners of war,and marched them 90 miles to prison camps. Thousands of POWs died on the March. Japanese General Homma was convicted of war crimes related to the death march,and was hung by the neck until dead on 4/3/1946.
