Naughty Goldy Gopher Mocks Penn State, Jesus

Did University of Minnesota mascot Goldy Gopher go too far when he mimicked Penn State defensive end Jerome Hayes praying in the end zone on Saturday? The guy who shot this video (seen following the jump) obviously thinks so.

Goldy Gopher

“He clearly mocked his prayer. That’s not cool,” says the camera operator, who is apparently a Penn State fan annoyed with the gopher’s antics. What was Hayes’ reaction? Will Goldy have to answer to a higher authority? And by “higher authority,” do I mean Joe Paterno?

Answers, and the video, following the jump.

Did Goldy Gopher cross the line?

Only one thing is certain about Goldy: he has issues. Dark, confusing, laundry-related issues.

Making fun a players praying is an old stand by for comedians, and it at the level of comic ingenuity that’s fitting for a mascot.

I don’t think disrepecting somebody’s religion is cool, but mimicking a player’s praying is a far call away from slandering an entire religion.

i think all the bible thumpers should get over themselves. honestly, does the guy have to make that big of deal over praying? give me a break, the guy runs out of the tunnel with a hardon to run to the corner of the end zone to pray as if God/Jesus/Mary/Mohammed/Zeus whoever the hell he would honestly “pray” to give a damn about what he is doing at that very moment.

Why not sit in your locker room and pray? Why not do it on the sidelines? This guy is just as guilty of attention whoring as the mascot is.

I have no affiliation with either side.

The larger issue: Did Jesus use fabric softener?

Actually, who was the distasteful one? The Penn State player who couldn’t offer his hand to a mascot of the opposing team? Come on, you don’t pray in front of thousands, hoping no one sees you. Lighten up people! This is proof of how ridiculous our society is and how we continually have to worry about hurting someone’s feelings!
