NAACP Planning Pro-Vick Rally Before Thu. Game

It’s obvious a lot of folks in Philadelphia are flustered by the fact that the Eagles are giving Michael Vick a second chance at an NFL career. The Vickster is set to make his debut for the Iggles this Thursday in an exhibition game against the Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field.

As you would expect, a big protest march is being planned to take place at the Linc before kickoff. As you might not expect, the planned march will be pro-Vick.

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports that a number of civil rights groups - including the NAACP & the Black Clergy of Philadelphia - are set to hold a massive demonstration in a show of support for the previously-incarcerated QB.

Seems some folks are getting tired of PETA’s persecution of Michael:

“We believe Michael Vick has served his time, paid his debt to society and deserves a second chance and the animal rights groups want to hold him hostage for the rest of his life,” J. Whyatt Mondesire, president of the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP, said Wednesday. “We think that’s patently unfair. It denies Michael Vick’s basic civil rights, denies him his ability to make a living.”

Seems fair enough. In this great country of ours, everyone has the right to their opinion. And such a march could be seen as a noble endeavor - as long as Al Sharpton steers clear.

So far, there hasn’t been any word of any counter-protests by animal rights activists setting up shop outside the Linc. But there’s bound to be a sign or two or 20 disagreeing with Vick’s inclusion into the Iggles family. And being in Philly, what’s a sporting event without some fists flying amongst attendees?

And if PETA does happen to put in an appearance, there better be a naked chick or two, by golly!

Does anyone really take peta or the naacp seriously these days? Peta go save some dolphins or something. Really what do you care that this man who lost a fortune and went to jail for two years is now back doing his job. Vick has been punished alot more then 99.99% of animal killers/abusers, yet it isnt enough. You want a poster boy for the moment for your cause. NAACP youve become a joke over the years. Your wasting your time helping a man whose job is nowhere near being in jeopardy. The eagles do not care what peta thinks, they dont really even care what their fans think about it. So why dont you go help some of thousands of young men in Philly that have served time and cant even find a min wage job cause of their criminal pasts. Oh thats right, its because their nobodys and not gonna get your orginazations name in the media.

I think some folks think the populace takes PETA and the NAACP seriously because the media portrays them as legitimate organizations. That’s what made the *careers* of Jesse and Al.

What you see on CNN is not what you get among most Americans.

the NAACP might be a racist organization. VICK GOT ANOTHER CHANCE. HE RECEIVED A MULTIMILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT FROM THE EAGLES!!!!

this “show” of support is about getting attention and an attempt to turn this into a racial issue.

there are people out there who have served their time and NEED a second chance. these people have a hard time finding minimum wage jobs. WHERE IS THE NAACP FOR THESE PEOPLE? oh, there are no t.v. cameras, so they wont be able to help.

I didn’t know this was a racial issue. I thought this was about the torture and killing of innocent animals. Or is it that the NAACP finds nothing wrong with dogfighting. Do they understand what a bate dog is and what happens to it. Vics punishment should have been a ban from football. The message sent to young people is “don’t get caught, but if you do, its no big deal”. Mike Vic should be a bate human. Thats justice.
