Local Team To Pay Tribute To Vick’s Prison Stay

As Michael Vick lounges around in Leavenworth - maybe or maybe not playing football - one local minor league team would like to welcome him to the neighborhood.

Michael Vick Kansas City T-Bones

THE KANSAS CITIAN pitches along news that the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League will be honoring the area’s newest incarcerated resident on Wednesday, May 28.

That evening, the Bones will be wearing special prisoner-themed black & white striped uniforms, while the visiting Gary Southshore Railcats will don orange jumpsuit jerseys. (Too bad the Northern League is a bus league, since Railcat players will miss out on viewing this great exhibit at the K.C. airport.)

After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to local animal shelters. And fans that bring along a photo with themselves & their dog can get 2 for 1 bleacher seats.

So, why won’t the T-Bones let Rover or Fido come out to the park for real? Dogs love bones. (On a side note, how many dogs do you know that are actually named ‘Rover’ or ‘Fido’?)

Michael Vick Chew Toy

It’s not the first time that Vick’s antics have been inspiration for a minor league promotion. Last year, the St. Paul Saints had a Michael Vick dog chew toy giveaway, while the Long Beach Armada invited fans to turn in their Vick merchandise so they can be used as pooper scoopers.

The minor leagues thrive on attention-getting promotions like this. And if it takes turning a terrible thing like dogfighting into a good fundraising opportunity, why not?

Wonder if Michael will be given a day pass to throw out the first pitch?
