Amazing, these banned bloggers, the things they come up with when they are actually granted access to the team.
Jerry Zgoda of the MINNEAPOLIS STAR-TRIBUNE in his blog today has Minnesota Timberwolves Owner Glen Taylor flatly admitting that he thought Kevin Garnett “tanked” the last two seasons.
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, never a man at a loss for words or a candid answer, was asked Tuesday morning at the team’s annual photo shoot why the Wolves are winning now — four of their last six — with extra NBA draft lottery chances on the line after they seemingly did everything they could the last two seasons to lose and keep their protected draft pick from the Clippers.
“I don’t like that so much, I don’t like that,” Taylor said of the notion the Wolves tanked last season. “It was more like, I’d say, K.G. tanked it.”
Taylor said Garnett took himself out of the lineup with five games to play last season for what the team called an injured quadriceps muscle.
We’re not here to defend Garnett, but we don’t take him as a guy who would fake an injury or not play with his best effort. The blame for the T’Wolves endless on-court cratering belongs squarely on the shoulders of Taylor and his eternally incompetent general manager Kevin McHale.
If the C’s weren’t flying so high, we wonder if Taylor would be so sour about K.G.’s departure.
Now when it comes to Shaq this season in Miami, we have our doubts. We didn’t think that until we saw him flying around the court for the Suns the last two weeks. With the Heat this season, he was seemingly plagued by a chronically arthritic hip that we actually thought might cost him his career after this year.
Funny how quickly that injury was cleared up once Shaq was shipped to a contending squad.
