The DETROIT FREE PRESS passes along news that offensive coordinator Mike Martz has been fired by the Lions:
The ex-Rams head coach was let go on Wednesday after yet another disappointing season. And he wasn’t the only Martz to be marched off from Ford Field, as Mike’s son Tim also lost his job as an offensive assistant.
But Martz seems to be taking the sacking pretty well: “I’ve got no regrets about anything. I have no anger. I’m not upset about anything. I went as far as I could there, and now it’s time for me to move on.”
And Mike still seems to have much respect for head coach Rod Marinelli, calling him a terrific coach and a man of great character. Martz sums up his stay in Detroit by saying, “I came here because of Rod.”
We hear the same reason for his visits to West Hollywood and Fire Island.

But we kid.
Martz can feel a little better that he wasn’t the only O.C. ousted in the new year, as the Kansas City Chiefs fired Mike Solari, along with three other assistants. Solari, wide receivers coach Charlie Joiner & running backs coach James Saxon were all holdovers from Dick Vermeil’s tenure as chief KC Chief.

Wonder if Dick cried when he heard the news.
