This sums up Iowa State football this season. And last season. And last season. And …
… oh, never mind.
Video (thank you Wiz) - and identity of pole crasher - after the jump.
Travis Ferguson is #83 for the Cyclones. And you can see the defensive end’s dreads getting straighten by the immovable object.
Finally, Travis & Co. found something at Jack Trice Stadium that stops when it’s hit.

Kind of gets you all choked up.

I never realized the fog could get so bad in Ames.
7:21 pm on October 20th, 2008
I always figured Iowans had no sense of direction, but to run into your own goalpost? That's classic.
7:23 pm on October 20th, 2008
Seems that the Cyclones were smoking a little pre-game pot before kickoff. That would explain their lousy season so far.
7:24 pm on October 20th, 2008
I'm surprised more players didn't run into the goalpost. What a stupid idea.
7:26 pm on October 20th, 2008
hey, they swiped that fog intro from the canes. serves them right to slam into the post.
7:27 pm on October 20th, 2008
Considering they later got whalloped 35-7 by Nebraska, Iowa State should have just stayed behind the smog.
7:28 pm on October 20th, 2008
Vandy, yeah, that does remind me now of the bus scene in "Up In Smoke" hehe.
7:28 pm on October 20th, 2008
This is embarrassing - especially since their uniforms look a lot like the Trojans.
7:31 pm on October 20th, 2008
I knew the Cyclones were playing in a fog this season, and this video clinches it.
7:32 pm on October 20th, 2008
Hopefully this bad experience with a pole doesn't inhibit young Travis Ferguson from taking future visits to strip clubs.
7:33 pm on October 20th, 2008
Ironically, the ISU marching band was playing "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes".
7:35 pm on October 20th, 2008
This was actually the Cyclones coming back out for the 2nd half, right after the end of Iowa State's halftime tribute to Cheech & Chong.
7:36 pm on October 20th, 2008
Even after going through a rotten day, this makes me laugh.
7:38 pm on October 20th, 2008
This would be a great opening for a music video, if not for hitting the goalpost.
Or would it?
7:39 pm on October 20th, 2008
I would suggest sending this video to ESPN's College Gameday crew. But Iowa State has suffered enough already this year.

Could be worse. He could have been this guy:

Good thing both player & post were padded. Who knows who would have gotten the worst of it.
7:47 pm on October 20th, 2008
Dunder, I would have gone with "Smoke On The Water".
8:38 pm on October 20th, 2008
Actually they should crank that thing up so the whole team gets flattened before the game - save us some time and money.
10:20 pm on October 20th, 2008
I knew they shouldn't have put the BBQ pits so close to the team's entrance.
11:36 am on October 21st, 2008
Also ironically, the national anthem was sung by Smokey Robinson.
12:12 pm on October 21st, 2008
And I thought the Indiana Hoosiers couldn't find their way around a football field.

Very funny. However, how can the above Minnesota fan make any comments, when Minnesota allowed a visiting team to tear down Minny's own goalpost after losing to Iowa in 2001?
The only school in NCAA history to have their own goalposts torn down by a VISITING team.
