Lee Higgins of the AnnArbor.com reports this week:
A University of Michigan football player was arrested this morning after a female student reported he sexually assaulted her.
The man was questioned and released as detectives continue to investigate the 2 a.m. incident in the 600 block of South State Street, Ann Arbor police Det. Dave Monroe said. Police would not release the name of the player today.
Monroe said no charges have yet been filed as the investigation continues. Both parties are 18-years-old and know each other. The charges stemmed from an incident between the two at a party on Saturday night at the Chi Psi fraternity.
Higgins also notes the U-M football player was later released Sunday.
I’m tempted to ask if it can get any worse for college football in the state of Michigan, but to be fair on this one, the Wolverine player has not yet been charged with anything.
Nothing new on the dorm attack at Michigan State Sunday that allegedly involved up to 20 Michigan State players - though Spartan football players Glenn Winston and Rodrick Jenrette were dismissed from the squad by coach Mark Dantonio shortly after the news of the altercation surfaced.
Dantonio has only stated that the two broke team rules.
