TheGrio.com has a new interview with Michael Vick in which he says he’d like to once again own a dog.
During a video interview, Vick said that owning a dog would be a “big step” in his rehabilitation.
“I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love and my passion for animals; I think it would be outstanding. If I ever have the opportunity again I will never take it for granted.
“I miss having a dog right now. I wish I could. My daughters miss having one, and that’s the hardest thing: Telling them that we can’t have one because of my actions.
“I would love to get another dog in the future. I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process.”
As part of his sentence on a dogfighting conviction, Vick was permanently banned by a judge from ever owning a dog again.
As much as I’d like to see Vick’s kids have the opportunity to own a dog, the constant reminder that the ban brings, in lieu of any remaining punishment, might not be such a bad thing for the Eagles quarterback.
