Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports today that Michael Strahan is claiming that he’s decided to retire:
“It was important that my teammates knew which way I was going before they got on the field to start the work to defend our title,” (Strahan) said from California. “It’s time. I’m done.”
Strahan finally made up his mind a week ago but wanted to take the extra days to make sure his feeling on the matter was 100 percent.
Now, we’re all thinking the same thing on this one right? Something along the lines of this?
I don’t believe for one second that Strahan won’t be on the field this season. It’s merely an astute negotiation tactic by a man who still has plenty of money lost in a divorce to recoup.
Jason Taylor of the Dolphins, who is planning to skip Dolphins training camp this season, is also taking a page out of Strahan’s negotiation manual. #99 and #92 will both be on the field for opening day.
It’s also amusing to see Glazer, the Punxsutawney Phil of NFL writers in the offseason, pop up every so often with breakers like this one. Usually he delivers the goods. But this time, I think Strahan is using the esteemed FOX Sports reporter to up his value coming out of Training Camp.
