If it hadn’t happened now, it would’ve happened later. Ned Yost was canned by the Brewers today, with the club currently in freefall in the National League standings.
After last season’s collapse, the costly acquisition of C.C. Sabathia and Yost’s particular unpopularity with his own players, Brewers management and the local media, it really was a matter of time before he lost his job.
The bigger question is, why wasn’t this done at the end of last season?
If you ask Milwaukee insiders about the move, they’ll tell you this is actually the best thing that could’ve happened to The Crew at the end of last season. Yost was in over his head in every way possible: strategy, clubhouse leadership and dealing with the media.
Dale Sveum takes over as Skip for now.
I really am rooting for the Brewers to make it back to postseason for the first time in 26 years. The team is a breath of fresh air (see not the insufferable Cards or Cubs), even if it does have at least one anchor dragging it down.

Guess you could say Yost is toast.

My biggest thing isn’t that I want the Brewers to win, I just want to make sure the Cardinals (and more specifically, Tony LaRussa) to lose.

Great move.
I’ve never seen a move like this ever.
Yost was a real prick in the clubhouse and a jerk to the media. Good riddance.

Would love to see that picture with Ed Hochuli photoshop’d in and Norv Turner on the right …
Sad Turn(er) of events …

The Crew will try to grin.
Despite the media spin.
The firing of Yost.
Will cost them the most.
And Da Cubs will go on to win.
/I got nuthin’.

If Yost was a good guy, he wouldnt have lasted the year. I can’t imagine him getting another shot at managing.
But then again, Dusty’s got a gig.

If Al Davis was in charge, the Brewers would’ve waited until April 5th next year to fire him.

secho: Yeah, and Alzheimer Al’d have waited for the Brewers to win a game before dropping the axe.
