Latest LeBron-To-NYC Plans - Zap Zach, Give Gifts

Marc Berman of the NEW YORK POST shoots up the latest plan to bring LeBron James to the Big Apple.

LeBron James Zach Randolph

When LeBron has a chance to opt out of his Cavaliers contract in 2010, Berman suggests making salary cap room by trading away Zach Randolph and his $17.8 million contract that runs through 2011. And it doesn’t have to be just Zach that’s zapped from the roster, as Berman says removing Eddy Curry or Jamal Crawford could also put the Knicks under the cap.

But if MSG management can’t make this happen, some fans hope to sway LeBron with their own greenback grass-roots campaign.

A new website, New York for Lebron, is trying to raise funds for a noble cause - buying LeBron gifts so he’ll play in their fair city. As the site describes its mission:

Article II, Section II (iii) (c) of the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) basically states that No Team can pay above a certain salary amount (cap number) to acquire a player. However we the people are not confined to Article II, Section II (iii) (c) of the CBA. So as New Yorkers we have to put matters in our own hands. Please register so that we can invite you to rallies and special events and raise funds to buy LeBron a New York gift basket (his own suite at Yankee Stadium, additional salary, Gloria James courtside seats, Ferrari, etc.) if he opts out of his contract in July 1, 2010 and comes to New York. Does LeBron need the money? No, but we need LeBron!

Screw the Red Cross & the Salvation Army - this is more important!

It’s a good bet that LeBron will land in New York soon enough, but instead of Manhattan, it’ll likely be across the East River with his bud Jay-Z in Brooklyn.
