Maybe he knows you shouldn't use gay slurs, but is trying to make it seem like its common that some people don't. Of course f*g is probably the worst of the slurs, maybe not in terms of use or history, but in terms of what it actually means. The whole word originally meant a bundle of sticks, to be used in firewood. The word got applied to gays when it was suggested that they should burned in the same way. Now, other slurs may be worse as far as their standing in our society, but none of them actually say "I want to set you on fire" It could also be that the guy is shilling for his client.
