After the news hit today that Lawrence Taylor was arrested overnight at a hotel in Suffern, NY., and charged with statutory rape, the WALL STREET JOURNAL contacted Taylor’s current wife Lynette Taylor.
Reached on her cellphone, Taylor’s wife Lynette said, “Im watching the news just like you. That’s it. I’m watching the news just like you.” Asked if she’d had any contact with her husband since the early morning arrest, Mrs. Taylor said a third time, “I’m watching the news just like you. Have a good day.”
An hour or so later, after Lynette was contacted by TMZ.com, she had a change a heart about expressing her opinion on the situation.
Lawrence Taylor’s wife is standing by her man while he faces allegations of rape — telling TMZ she believes the entire incident is one big “setup.”
TMZ just spoke with Lynette Taylor — LT’s 3rd wife — who tells us the allegations are “all bullsh*t.”
As for why she suspects a setup, Lynette claims that the timing of the arrest is suspicious because it came just days after LT was featured on an A&E documentary called “Fame and Recovery” which she believes “made him out to be a monster.”
Lynette wouldn’t expand on who she thought could be behind such a plot, but she was adamant that the timing of the show and the arrest were no coincidence.
Lynette’s response doesn’t contain any facts about the case, so perhaps she isn’t privy to exactly what happened.
What’s more interesting to me about her response is why she would turn down a venerable journalistic institution like the WALL STREET JOURNAL for comment but then provide candid remarks about the case to tabloid TMZ.com.
Taylor’s attorney was also in touch with TMZ.com after the arrest:
TMZ spoke with LT’s lawyer, Kenneth Gribetz, who tells us Taylor is adamant that he’s not guilty.
Gribetz also tells us LT — who is still behind bars in the Town of Ramapo — is “extremely upset about the situation.”
Additionally, TMZ reports:
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Lawrence Taylor’s accuser told police that the NFL legend paid her $300 for sex.
If TMZ’s source is correct, it’s interesting that police have only so far confirmed that Taylor has been charged with third degree rape and not soliciting prostitution.
UPDATE (9:49p ET): TMZ.com reports Thursday evening:
Lynette Taylor was supposed to appear on King’s show via satellite from Florida … but she just 86′d the interview … we’re told her husband’s legal team has something to do with it.

Having been born in this country, I do not consider myself to be a citizen; but, rather, a Black victim of this nation. In legal fact, it is a definite lie! It has been well documented that the rich and famous and powerful generally tend to either not be charged with a clear and evident crime, or they are convicted of something considerably less and, worse, they are sentenced to something that is truly socially offensive and shocking to one’s conscience. As for the truth of the matter, again, I am not able to speak on this, but will submit that he apparently used some absence of judgement in allowing for this situation to escalate to where he now finds himself positioned. Finally, though I am not trained in criminal law, I am sure that I could lend his legal team some crucial information to aid in his defense, at a substantial cost, of course. If the prosecution cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Taylor knew the alleged victim; they therefore cannot press the charge of 3rd degree rape. The burden of proof is on the prosecution to prove that he knowingly and willfully had sex with an underage girl. If they can’t prove this; the charge will have to be reduced to solicitation of a prostitute. According to the report; Mr. Taylor was solicited by a young female unknown to him appearing to be of legal age. Poor judgment of assessing someones age who could reasonably appear to be age is not sufficient grounds for knowingly and willfully engaging in sex with a minor justifying 3rd degree rape. But for the POS prosecutor rape SOUNDS sooooo much better! On the issue of trying to properly judge someones age; liquor law states that ALL ID’s be checked for anyone appearing to be less than 35 or in some states 40 years of age because looks can be deceiving. Incorrectly judging someones age isn’t and shouldn’t be a crime. Here is how f**ked up our legal system is: Take a prostite and a video camera into a hotel room; engage in sex with a prostitute with the camera off and it’s solicitation.
