Ky. Only Goes Up To 11 in 1st Half of Vandy Loss

During the first half of their game against Vanderbilt on Tuesday night, Kentucky must have been channeling Spinal Tap, as the Wildcats could only go up to 11 on their way to a 93-52 crushing by the Commodores.

The LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER runs down the rancid records the Wildcats set during their nightmare in Nashville.

The 11 points were the lowest scored by UK in any half since the shot-clock era began. The final score marked the fifth-worst loss in school history. And not only was it Vandy’s most-lopsided win in the series, it was Kentucky most-lopsided defeat in any SEC contest.

Wildcat players were in disbelief over what happened. Ramel Bradley commented, “I just couldn’t believe it.” Meanwhile, Patrick Patterson was more direct, admitting, “They totally stomped us in the ground. They played like men. We played like boys.”

Kentucky players can't watch Vanderbilt rout

Even Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings was stunned by the results, as he told the NASHVILLE TENNESSEAN, “I don’t know what to say.”

It was also a personal new low for coach Billy Gillispie, who suffered his worst defeat ever as a head coach, surpassing a 75-40 setback to Texas while he was in charge at Texas A&M. All Gillispie could say about Tuesday’s loss was, “We just got our tail kicked …. That’s all there is to it.”

And we thought losing to Gardner-Webb was hitting rockbottom.
