Tiger Banner Over US Open: “Are You My Daddy?”

An aerial banner mocking Tiger Woods appeared above the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach today. Ryan Ballengee of WaggleRoom.com captured the sky sign, which read, “TIGER: ARE YOU MY DADDY?”:

Ballengee noted of the banner’s first appearance:

Tiger Woods hit a terrible drive to the left on the downhill par 4 third hole. As Woods was hitting his recovery out of deep grass with a very audible grunt, a plane passed over the third hole with a message for Tiger. It asked, “Tiger: Are You My Daddy?”

Another view of the plane towing the banner today:

TMZ.com reported early Sunday that Long Island-based National Sky Ads is behind the banner. Company Owner Ted DeReeder told TMZ that two banners were ordered back in April but would not reveal who was behind commissioning the aerial signs. A second banner will also reportedly fly over Pebble Beach later today.

This is the second time Woods has been confronted with an aerial banner at a high profile pro golf tournament. Multiple sky signs mocking the golfer were seen during The Masters at Augusta National golf course in April.

Tiger Woods US Open Banners Flown By Same Company That Mocked Mack Brown

Interestingly, this isn’t the first controversial sports banner flown by DeReeder’s company. Texas football fans can attest to that.

KVUE-TV in Austin reported in December, 2008:

A plane flying a banner over the University of Texas Thursday caused quite a stir.

The plane’s message said: “Hey Mack, quit whining. U knew the rules.”

That’s in reference to complaints about the BCS rankings that put Texas behind Oklahoma, a team Texas beat in the regular season.

Ted DeReeder, president of Long Island-based National Sky Ads, says he brokered the deal that sent the plane flying over UT.

He says the people who hired him are UT fans, but says they specifically asked him not to identify them publicly. He says the entire flight cost about $2,200.

For those of you who say it’s time to leave Woods alone, think Elin would agree with you on this Father’s Day?

That would be somebody with way too much money. I’ve always said that the Golfing Fan Base can be absolutely cruel. They only wanna ride the train when some Santa is on board. They wanna beat him up when the bag of goodies is empty.

I will never condone the inconceivable choices Tiger Woods made for his life. I will never be able to comprehend. Best lesson he could ever give himself - step down and become one with a teacher and try surviving like his/her family for a while.

HOWEVER - The person responsible for renting that plane and plastering that banner in the sky is many steps lower on the ladder of class - intelligence - ambition - intention - and especially - COURAGE - compared to Tiger Woods.

Tiger made his family a big part of his identity as golfer, first with his parents and then his wife and kids. People love to ridicule those that are seen as hypocritical. i guess he qualifies on that score. But it is pretty nasty…

Who cares? He’s a pro golfer, not Ward Cleaver. Move on, slugs.

Are you effing kidding me. Dude, that is so effing original
    Tiger Woods

BTW Mark, I just read of a man who murdered his wife and kids. He is not the first nor the last. Those are the worst fathers.

Besides, the nanny will walk away with 300 mils and the kids are set for life. Just keepin it in perspective dude. He is a married man who screwed a bunch of women. You sound like you never heard of this sort of thing before.

TW: That is so effing unoriginal. Kiss my cablinasian ass.

BTW: @ Mark. You need to leave your mother’s basement more often. A married TW screwed a bunch of women. Sounds like you believe he is the first married man or male athlete ever to do that. The nanny is walking away with 300 mils and the kids are set for life.

I hope the person(s) who commissioned the banner has money. If he/she does not, then it is just another idiot throwing his/her hard-earned money away just to mock a man who is almost a billionaire. Isn’t it time to cease and desist from ragging on Tiger? For heaven’s sake, it has been eight months since the scandal broke and I cannot begin to list the number of famous people who have been accused of adultery since then!
Furthermore, men and women are cheating on their spouses all across America everday!

Tiger is just a man like anyother , he’s not the first to make poor decisions and he wont be the last , others have done the same thing and have not been bashed like he has , everyone one should just move on , and Tiger should do what he does best play golf .

The person or persons responsible for that banner are cowards , they shouldn’t hide , aren’t they proud of what they did .
