Jose Canseco’s Steroid Use Hurts His Street Value

For the most part, the business of steroids has been a pretty profitable one for Jose Canseco. After all, those steroids provided the home runs Jose hit while still playing, so they earned him millions on the field. Then steroids kept the money train rolling for Jose after he retired thanks to the two books he wrote selling out all of his former friends and teammates.

Sure, they shrunk his testicles, but his wallet has grown at an unbelievable rate. Still, no one man can have it all, so steroids may end up costing Jose his standing in his hometown of Miami. Miami-Dade County Commissioneer Joe Martinez is trying to have Jose’s name removed from the street it’s been on for 20 years.

From the MIAMI HERALD (via SEDANO SHOW):

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe Martinez thinks so. And on Tuesday, Martinez will offer a resolution to permanently remove Canseco’s name from the West Miami-Dade street it has swung over for almost two decades.

”I think it’s an embarrassment. It runs through my district, right by my office,” said Martinez, who drives Southwest 16th Street — aka Jose Canseco Street — a few times a week.

There are plenty of reasons to be embarrassed by Jose Canseco, but it’s not the butt-whipping he took from Vai Sikahema, or the fact he is willing to tell us his darkest secrets for some easy cash. It’s the steroid use.

The resolution will be put to a vote tonight, and if it passes it will move on to the Board of County Commissioners for a final vote. It should be mentioned that this isn’t the first time somebody’s tried to get Canseco’s name removed from the street, as back in 2003 the same board of commissioners responded to Jose’s arrest after a beach brawl by saying convicted felons couldn’t have streets named after them.

That resolution did not pass, and Jose’s name stayed on the street. Jose’s like a cockroach, but on steroids. Neither he nor his legend will ever die.
