Cincinnati Reds legendary catcher Johnny Bench will be printed on the label of select Maker’s Mark bourbon bottles to commemorate an annual Cincy-area horse race.
3,000 of these boys will be bottled and sold in the Cincinnati area next month, and according to the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER if you go to the Lane’s End Stakes at Turfway Park in Cincinnati, Bench will be there to sign it for you.
Although it’s probably more of a collector’s item, the bottle does serve as an effective vessel by which one can endure three hours of Joe Morgan discussing baseball. Imbibing it, throwing it at the TV, pouring it on the audio speakers … totally your call. It’s that versatile.
We might need an entire set of Big Red Machine bottles. The Dave Concepcion bourbon might seem like it tastes great, but that’s only because of the bourbon around it. They’d probably make only 3,000 Pete Rose bottles, but double or nothing it’s at least 4,000. And so on.
