The NEW YORK POST has a gem today from Joe Torre after a spineless reporter apologized for asking the Yankees manager about Cynthia Rodriguez’s profane tank yesterday: “It’s ESPN, that [bleep] network, right?”.

Meanwhile, the BOSTON GLOBE has Nick Cafardo carrying water for John Henry and Larry Lucchino, as he reports this week information fed to him by Red Sox management that industry sources “estimate the Yankees will make an additional [$50-100M] annually” when the new Yankee Stadium opens in ’09, which “will necessitate even better management” of Fenway Park by the Red Sox.

Translation: Get ready for Red Sox ownership to continue to jam more seats-per-square-inch into the Fens, while slathering obnoxious ads on whatever isn’t nailed down (is Johnny Pesky’s fungo next?).

Red Sox President & CEO Larry Lucchino confirms that notion to Cafardo, “A new ballpark is not in the cards. But the new behemoth Yankee Stadium in 2009 does militate in favor of us doing everything possible to make Fenway Park a bit bigger, better, and more revenue-producing in the near future.”
