Tampa Bay Rays Manager Joe Maddon has a reputation for getting the most out his players. He’s one of the few major league managers that never actually played in the bigs.
He also knows a thing or two about handling meat.
With the Rays having an over-achieving season, one that Rays owner Stuart Sternberg referred to as having “two pounds of bologna in a one-pound bag,” it seems appropriate that BUGS & CRANKS would bring us a fascinating photo essay of Maddon…with meat!
I’ll be curious to see if bologna makes the All-Maddon team of meat. Maybe instead of porking around the butcher shop, he could find a way to beat the Red Sox.

Joe Maddon has beaten the Red Sox already this season.
The Rays swept the Red Sox in their first series in St. Petersburg on Apriil 25-27.
The Red Sox swept the Rays at Fenway on May 2-4.
So the teams have split their series so far. No team has won a road game.
I’m more worried about the Rays beating the Orioles this weekend. A Rays sweep would be great, as the O’s are 2.5 games behind the Rays in the AL East right now.
The Rays are 2.5 games behind the Red Sox. I never expected the Rays to win the AL East… but a wild card berth would be great, just so I could see you write about it.
And who knows? Maddon may figure out how to beat the Red Sox in Fenway next month.
