Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel is set for the Tuesday release of his new book, The Winners Manual: For the Game of Life. The book promotes Tressel’s “Big Ten” fundamentals for success, and is availabe at the coach’s fancy little website.
The book isn’t a tell-all, behind the scenes look at the Ohio St. football program, but rather an inspiring blend of football stories, spiritual insights, motivational reading, and practical application. Here are a couple of highlights:
Consider this: Tressel writes that he has never been devastated by a loss and he regularly prays for Maurice Clarett.
Sprinkled throughout are quotes from an incredibly diverse mix of people, from Voltaire to Gandhi, Vince Lombardi and, believe it or not, rapper LL Cool J.
I can believe Tressel prays for Maurice Clarett, I’m sure he wants Mo’ to get his life together, but there’s no way he’s never been devastated by a loss. His teams have had their asses handed to them by the SEC in consecutive title games, and he’s a D-1 college football coach. He takes every loss hard by nature.
As far as quoting LL Cool J, Tressel was either trying to be hip and missed the mark by 15-20 years or LL has some insight into recovering from national embarrassment.
