SCHOENFELD TO NYC; MSG STOCKING UP KRISPY KREMES: Jim Schoenfeld has been named assistant GM of the New York Rangers. He’s served as GM for the minor-league Hartford Wolf Pack for the past 4 seasons.
But Schoenfeld is best known for his post-game tirade at NHL ref Don Koharski, after his New Jersey Devils lost to the Boston Bruins in a 1988 playoff matchup:
In later coaching years, you’d think Schonny would have mellowed with age. But as leader of the Captials, he still shows his indominable spirit in this spat with Penguins boss Bryan Trottier (at 1:17 mark in video):
Even in his playing days, Schoenfeld was not known as a yearly contender for the Lady Byng, as evidenced by this sharing of sportsmanship with Nick Fotiu:
