I wouldn’t have a problem with this if it were funnier, or less filled with irony. But the NFL’s new TV ad featuring Dallas Cowboys players mocking Jessica Simpson for her weight gain is now rattling around the web, and I suppose it’s up to us to view it.
Sample hilarity from the animated ad, which aired Oct. 11 on Fox NFL Sunday: Marion Barber says, “Man, I still can’t believe Tony dated Jessica Simpson, even after she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams!” Cowboys coach Wade Phillips also joins in on the joke, which is more ironic than I can tell you. The ad is sponsored by Burger King, although the empty-calorie purveyors seem to have had no actual part in producing it. So The King waking up in bed next to some random guy is suddenly no longer good enough?

Burger King was quick to distance itself from the debacle, as FOX issued this release:
“Burger King Corp. did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp. approved it before it aired,” Fox said in a statement to US WEEKLY. “Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended.”
The fast-food chain added: “Burger King Corp. has a long-standing relationship with FOX Sports, as well as an extensive media partnership with the network. The specific content for this sketch involving Jessica Simpson was not developed or aired by BKC or any of its agencies.”
P.S., please don’t sue.
Simpson herself commented on the ad, and is kind of taking the high road. From her Twitter account:
“I will never understand why people attack for a laugh. own your beauty and don’t listen to the judgement.”
Of course the funniest portion of the ad to me is the beginning, when Terry Bradshaw says: “And the Cowboys lose again …”

That video clip is so good, and It’s all true the cowboys will not make the playoffs, Romo is a sorry, lame, Quarterback, and Jessica is as big as Flozel Adams.
