JAY-Z BIDDING FOR NEW JERSEY ARENA NAMING RIGHTS: ALL HIP HOP reports that rapper Jay-Z is aiming to land the naming rights to Meadowlands Arena for his clothing company Rocawear.
Continental Airlines had paid $600K per year for the moniker honor to the New Jersey building. A new deal, which is being negotiating with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, could be announced as early as Oct. 4 and will likely be for double the previous, annual payout.The new owner will secure the rights to the arena’s name for two years, when the Nets move to Brooklyn in 2009. Clothing companies Izod and Southpole are also said to be in on the bidding.
If Jay-Z lands the deal, we might expect the following at his new digs:
• Snoop Dogg-sponsored designated smoking areas
• Metal detectors staffed by 50 Cent
• R. Kelly-inspired baby changing rooms
• Concession stands manned by K-Fed
