Penn State quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator Jay Paterno might not measure up to his father Joe as a coach, but as a wisecracking curmudgeon, he can keep up with dad every step of the way. Last night, the younger Paterno held an impromptu Q-and-A session via Twitter, the social media service that’s all the rage right now with the younger set.
Iowa Hawkeye blogger Oops Pow Surprise of BLACK HEART GOLD PANTS (who also writes for SPORTSbyBROOKS under the nom de plume Adam J) decided to get in on the action, jokingly asking Paterno if he thought coaches should carry guns on the sidelines to improve sportsmanship. Paterno’s answer (seen below) was nothing short of hilarious.
Yep, that’s a college football coach advocating the tasing of fans. It’s understandable that Paterno would be slightly irascible on the issue as Penn State fans are not, in general, huge fans of Jay’s coaching abilities. Still, tasing loudmouth fans would make for great halftime entertainment in State College.
When asked for comment about his son’s Twitter snark, Joe Paterno shook his fist and told me to get off his lawn.
