Both Mike Dunleavys Pained By Clippers Injuries

For Clippers fans, the injury situation is well-known in Los Angeles. Between Baron Davis‘ tweaked ring finger and Marcus Camby’s bruised heel, the Clip Joint probably won’t be at 100% when their season starts on the 29th against the Lakers. So you can be sure the injuries have Mike Dunleavy Sr.’s attention.

But, as the LOS ANGELES TIMES reports, that’s not where the Dunleavy injury problems stop. Mike Dunleavy Jr. will be getting an MRI on his right knee later this week, which probably puts the Pacers swingman on the shelf for a while. Said Dunleavy The Elder:

“It’s been bothering him since before camp,” Dunleavy said in his office earlier this week. “When he was out here, he was playing great, at UCLA every day. And he had a deep bone bruise. He can play half court, no problem. He can’t decelerate. Once he starts running hard, he can’t stop. He runs and then he can’t stop.”

It’s not great news for a rebuilding Pacers squad who expected both production and leadership from Dunleavy; without him, the only halfway-capable scorers on the entire team are Danny Granger and, uh, T.J. Ford. What, like Jeff Foster’s going to drop 30 on you? C’mon.

None of the three injuries mentioned above are particularly dire; if anything, Dunleavy has a dinged-up meniscus or something, and that’s hardly a season-ender. Still, there’s nothing fun about starting a season hurt, not when everyone else is at their healthiest. Looks like a long year for both the Clippers and the Pacers.
