The BLOOMINGTON HERALD-TIMES reports that Indiana is set to name Tom Crean as their new basketball coach.
Crean has spent the last eight seasons at Marquette, where he lead the
Warriors Golden Eagles to the 2003 Final Four. He’ll be taking over from Dan Dakich, who’s been leading the Hoosiers on an interim basis since Kelvin Sampson resigned in February.
Or course, there might not be much of a team left for Crean when he arrives in Bloomington.
Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis were kicked off the team by Dakich for missing team meetings. Seniors D.J. White and Lance Stemler will be graduating, while freshman phenom Eric Gordon is expected to declare for the NBA draft. If so, Indiana will have no returning starters for next season.
The Hoosiers are expected to hold a news conference Wednesday to announce the hiring. Maybe Tom will have found some players by then. But he better keep an eye on his phone bill.
