A couple of months ago, Olympic gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor saw their streak of consecutive beach volleyball wins stopped at 112 and their streak of tournament titles stopped at 19. Now we might have an idea as to why: it turns out that Walsh was pregnant. Nothing like a little morning sickness to disrupt your playing.
Walsh told ACCESS HOLLYWOOD that she and her husband Casey Jennings are expecting their first child, who was conceived in the days right after her gold medal victory in Beijing:
“Well, they way they date pregnancies is a little bit confusion. We believe we conceived during our last days in Beijing, or about a couple of days after we won the gold medal.”
But Billy challenged her on the math.
“I don’t think so!” he said jokingly with her. “If it’s sixteen-and-a-half weeks, that’s one week into August! Kerri, have you considered honestly that you were pregnant at the time when you won the gold medal?”
“I think it’s impossible, but you never know!” she admitted. “I don’t want to get into all of the details, but I’m pretty sure it was a couple of days after.”
So here’s what I’m taking from that quote, and please stop me if I’m reading too much into it: she instituted a no “bump, set or spike” policy in her bedroom during the tournament, but as soon as her matches were over, her and her husband had sex. A lot.
With her due (by my math) sometime in June, and the first AVP Tour matches in 2009 likely in March, I’m guessing that May-Treanor is going to need to find herself a new partner (assuming that she also isn’t pregnant, as Walsh said she is trying for). Somehow, I don’t think that Speedo makes a maternity two-piece Lycra bikini. At least I hope to God that they don’t.
