University of Alabama-Birmingham senior basketball star Robert Vaden had an up-and-down Saturday. The good news: he was named Preseason Player of the Year by the Conference USA’s coaches. The bad news: he was arrested on Saturday morning in Bloomington, IN on charges of public intoxication.
It’s hard to call that a push. THE HOOSIER SCOOP reports that an off-duty cop allegedly found Vaden drunk and pushing people around on the street. A quick Google Maps search on the address in the police report finds at least three bars on the block, so I’m guessing Vaden might have visited at least one of them that night.
This isn’t the first time that Vaden has had a run-in with the law. He was one of five UAB players arrested for creating a disturbance outside of a Birmingham nightclub last August after allegedly getting into a fight with each other.
But hey, maybe Vaden’s troubles can “bring the team together”, like coach Mike Davis said the team’s mass arrest did before last season. That’s called senior leadership right there.
Perhaps Vaden is regretting not coming out early for the NBA Draft after last season. Sure, he might not have been a first-round pick, but compared to getting busted for pot at rookie orientation, being arrested for public intoxication in the off-season is nothing.

Looks like he's NBA material already.

It's ironic, since Mike Davis had to deal with a zero-tolerance policy at Indiana.
Or was that just for his predecessor?

Not every NBA player is a felon. It only appears that way.

What else is there to do in Bloomington beside drink?

He wasn't pushing people, he was just working on his zone trap defense.
