This ad campaign was actually thought up last year and players in the superbowl were told about it. Same deal, $10k donated to charity for any player that struck the pose in the game. Nobody did it though, and it died off until Celek caught wind of it and decided to do it.

Really, everybody wins here. Celek gets to celebrate in a pop-culture style, $10k goes to charity, and Capt. Morgan gets a little promo to 21.6 million people nationawide for only a “$10K media buy” and from a player no less. Subverts the whole, lets pay and athlete to be in our ad and then buy ad time during the game model, but in a great way!

No way is the NFL going to allow any marketing (guerilla or otherwise) to occur without going through them, or them getting a cut. Any company that tries to circumvent them and do something like this is asking for trouble, especially when it spills over and involves on-field activity. NFL stands for No Free Lunch. If you want to market/advertise your product, you better pay the NFL their cut.

Really NFL? Players making the Captain Morgan pose isn’t allowed? At least the money would go to help retired players coping with injuries from their playing career.
