Hungarian weightlifter Janos Baranyai‘s attempt to lift 148 kg (about 320 lbs) did not go so well. Actually it was gruesome, awful and probably one of the ugliest moments of the Beijing games unless you’re into seeing guys dislocate their elbows.
MAIL ONLINE describes Baranyai’s ugly moment like this, “No longer able to support the weight of the barbell, his right forearm bent backward. The 24-year-old Hungarian fell to the floor in shock, shaking and crying out in pain.”
But really no words can describe what the Hungarian strong man experienced. Video and a few more photos for those of you who haven’t eaten breakfast yet after the jump.
Hungary’s lone lifter in the Olympics, he was ninth in both the snatch and clean and jerk in the European Championship earlier this year and placed 33rd in last year’s world championship.
Snatch and Jerk? Not only does weightlifting need to improve safety measures, it’s also going to need to revise the names of their events.
Baranyai’s first two snatch attempts at 140kg and 145kg were successful. His elbow-dislocating third attempt at 148kg is considered “a relatively modest weight in top-level competition.”
Easy for you to say, DAILY MAIL - you’re not the one with an elbow on the side of your arm where elbows don’t belong.
