Water restriction during practice just shows this guy's ignorance. The other line: "Other witnesses heard the coaches say they would run the players until someone quit the team" reminds me of my high school basketball days. I knew we were in trouble the day we showed up for practice (after a many-games losing streak) and couldn't find any basketballs. Coach then walked onto the floor and announced we wouldn't need basketballs for practice that day. Basically, he was embarrassed about losing and decided that running us into the ground over the course of an hour or so would make him feel better--so that's what he did. Sprints, laps, bleachers, line drills, all the while telling us "If you don't like it, there's the door" and pointing to the doorway at the end of the court that led to the lockers. After about an hour or so, I finally reached my BS limit, and after a line drill that ended on the locker end of the court I walked through that door. I earned a lot of respect that day.

In my day, "water discipline" was considered part of the routine. We were advised not to drink water before practice because it would "slow us down" and we would just throw it up, anyway. During practice, the most we would get would be a quick squirt from a hot hose, and told to spit it out, don't swallow it. After practice we were told to drink slowly, otherwise we would get stomach cramps.

And this was during two-a-day August practices. Of course, while they were at it, our coaches encouraged us to get a running back down by spearking him right in the stomach with our helmet. Our necks could absorb the punishment, they assured us, if we just worked out hard enough in the pre-practice drills.

Knowing what I know now, I'm amazed nobody died, either through heat stroke, dehydration, or a broken neck. I was secure in my belief that no coach in his right mind would try to do that sort of routine today. then I read about this.

Coaches who pull this cromag bullsh*t while leading kids should be held responsible. The idea of withholding something as necessary as water is a complete joke. I hope he's convicted, and spends the next several years of his life being raped orally and anally in prison.
