All those New England clothiers with a backlog of useless 19-0 t-shirts have found a new destination for their duds besides Nicaragua or Romania:
(Not that we’re comparing Houston to a third-world country. Or are we?)
The Rockets won their 19th straight game, beating New Jersey 91-73 on Monday night. Houston became the 4th team in NBA history to set such a streak. Not only did the Rockets beat the Nets on the court, they also tied them in the record books.
Tracy McGrady & his guys rang up their 10th straight victory by at least 10 or more points, an achievement previously set by the Jersey boys in 2004.
The 19-in-a-row ties the mark set by the ‘99-2000 Lakers. If the Rockets can kill the Hawks on Wednesday (and this guy could help), they’ll tie the 20-in-a-row turned in by the ‘70-’71 Milwaukee Bucks. Then it’s only 14 more straight ‘W’s to overtake the all-time record ratcheted up by the ‘71-’72 Lakers.
Something for the troops at the Toyota Center to consider: All 3 of the above record-holders went on to win the NBA title. Of course, the way the wacky Western Conference is going this season, 2 or 3 losses could send the Rockets crashing out of the playoffs.
Maybe they can get Jessica Alba to believe in them.
(Special thanks to GOTHAMIST for the Pats clothing links.)
