Video: High School Girl Can Dunk Ball With Ease

Michael David Smith of FANHOUSE has the find of the year, as far as we’re concerned:

The video is of Brittney Griner, who is now a 6-foot-7 junior in high school in the Houston area. She dunks routinely in games as well, and recently signed a letter of intent with Baylor.

This is huge development for women’s basketball. Because of her dunking ability, Griner could very well be the first female hoops player to go mainstream. We’re serious.

We didn’t say women’s basketball would go mainstream, but Griner could become an icon for the sport very, very quickly.

Whatever gets people away from celebrating Lisa Leslie’s “dunks” is fine with me.

I disagree. Her dunks, and ultimately women’s basketball, still lack athleticism. At 6′7″ you only need about a 20 inch vertical to dunk a women’s basketball. The additional problem is that she is not attractive. With VERY few exceptions, America doesn’t embrace unattractive female athletes. Some of the best female golfers in the world, for instance, aren’t terribly attractive. While Gulbis, Wie and their ilk grab the headlines, for instance, Sorrenstam, who looks bionic, has dominated the tour for years.

You’re not the first person to make that comparison to us. Hehe.
