The Indianapolis 500 runs today for the 92nd time, and should be underway shortly. And while most eyes will be on Danica Patrick to see if this will be her year, many are expecting Dancing With The Stars alumus Helio Castroneves to win his third 500.
We have a quick preview of the field after the jump.
Teammates Dan Wheldon, who won in 2005, and Scott Dixon will sit first and second in the starting grid, and Castroneves and Patrick will sit right behind them in Row 2.
A small handful of second-generation drivers are in the field. Marco Andretti is actually a third-generation driver, and he sits on the inside of Row 3 to start. Lesser-known Tomas Scheckter is the son of F-1 champ Jody Scheckter. Tomas will start in the middle of Row 4. Rookie Graham Rahal is only 19, but won his first start in IndyCar, and may be the most talented driver in the field. He starts on the inside of Row 5.
CHATTANOOGA NEWMYERS has an image file of all 33 cars in the race. YAHOO! SPORTS has previews of every driver. The hype and strength of the field in this race rivals those in Indy’s heyday, and IndyCar will need a good race today to capitalize on that excitement as a unified racing league moves forward. It should be fun to watch.
