Hawaii Wants $400K From Jones For Jetting Away

After saying aloha (goodbye) to Hawaii last January, June Jones might be saying aloha (hello) to the islands once again - if only for one game.

The HONOLULU ADVERTISER hikes along news that the Rainbow Warriors are talking with June’s new school, SMU, about the Mustangs heading out to Oahu to start the 2009 season.

It would be interesting to see Jones back on the sidelines at Aloha Stadium, considering how he left UH in a huff. But it turns out he might actually return to Honolulu sooner - or at least some of his money will.

The HONOLULU STAR-BULLETIN reports that Jones has fallen into a Rich Rodriguez-eque financial dispute with the University of Hawaii. The school says that June owes them $400,008 for leaving before his contract ended. Jones responds that then-AD Herman Frazier told him that he wouldn’t have to pay if he left the school early.

This monetary showdown between Jones & Hawaii can only add more fire to the proposed UH-SMU ‘09 season opener. Not only did June skip out on the Warriors, he ran off with their money, too! What Warrior fan wouldn’t want to buy tickets to the game, just to curse him out?

Or, maybe they can get together and give him a welcome-back tiki doll, just like the one Greg Brady wore during his groovy surfing contest:
