The latest comeback in sports now belongs to ESPN’s Hannah Storm.
Storm, who has been with THE EARLY SHOW on CBS, will join ESPN as part of a morning edition of SPORTSCENTER, her first sports assignment since leaving NBC’s sports department in 2002.
From SI.COM, via THE BIG LEAD (which is a fine site of which I personally have no issue):
The formal announcement is expected to come Tuesday morning in New York City at ESPN’s upfront presentation — the annual May event in which giddy television executives unveil to advertisers its future programming plans. Two additional extended SportsCenters are expected to follow the Storm-fronted show. “We’re declining comment,” said ESPN spokesperson Mike Soltys on Saturday.
Interestingly, the revamped SportsCenters will compete against the ESPN2 morning block of Mike & Mike In the Morning and First Take. Storm is expected to start sometime in the next couple of months. Emails to Storm’s agent, Jim Griffin, were not immediately returned.
Storm’s return to sports–while going up against the large-mouth bass that is Skip Bayless–should be an interesting development. Is Hannah being positioned to be the Katie Couric of sports entertainment? This can’t be too bad–less Linda Cohn is good for everyone.
