Baseball’s just starting, and Red Sox Nation already has reason to be riled up this year: Hank Steinbrenner thinks you’re all “a bunch of bullsh*t“.
SLIDING INTO HOME comes across a NEW YORK TIMES article that has an in-depth look at the new leaders of the New York Yankees - Hank & his brother Hal. (And we do mean in-depth - the story’s nine web pages long.)
Near the end of the piece, Hank decides to take a swing at the supporters of his hated division rival:
“Red Sox Nation? What a bunch of [expletive] that is. That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans.”
So, that’s why the Bronx Bombers banned ESPN from their conference calls while they we’re looking for Joe Torre’s replacement. Nothin’ but a bunch of Boston backers in Bristol, by golly!
But maybe the Baby Boss is trying to hide his real fear of the RSN taking over - they’ve already claimed one well-known New Yorker.
Even so, Hank is ready to reclaim the good ol’ U.S.A.:
“Go anywhere in America and you won’t see Red Sox hats and jackets, you’ll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We’re going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order.”
Evil Empire, indeed.
Such strong comments shouldn’t seem as such a surprise from the Yanks’ Hank. This is the same guy that claimed football has a bigger problem with steroids than baseball does. And he could have been charged by the MLB with tampering when he openly coveted the Twins’ Johan Santana.
Can’t wait to see what awaits Hank on his next trip to Fenway. This little tyke already has his greeting all set:
