Sometimes we, as learned primates of the Internet, forget that not everything we see on the web is necessarily known by everyone. For example, RickRolling? It’s kind of mainstream, but soccer moms and construction workers may not be in the know. But we’d figure American Idol would be a household name, right?
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, prior to San Antonio’s first game against the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Western finals, was asked about the Idol finale which was held across the street from the Staples Center, where Game 1 was taking place. The answer … may alarm you:
“Is that where they dance with each other?”
Whoa.
It’s genuinely possible Pops isn’t sure what Idol is, and we, the future world leaders, are just putting too much emphasis on a TV show. Or that he actually got it confused with Dancing w/ The Stars. (He is in LA, after all. Stars abound.) Or … OR … he’s just yankin’ us all, and actually regularly DVRs Idol, Project Runway, Deadliest Catch, and Twitters on his Facebook page using a RAZR phone.
Conversely, Phil Jackson, on the other hand, was asked the same question and said that he occasionally watches it with girlfriend/boss Jeanie Buss, who actually tapes the show and edits down the friggin’ shows for him to watch. I guess when you’re used to game film being consumed that way, why change a good thing?
