Mike Florio of PRO FOOTBALL TALK passes along the latest scuttlebutt from Green Bay. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with Brett Favre. The Packers have apparently shown interest in the services of Jason Taylor.
(No, not the Bengals - the Packers!)
It’s no big surprise that Taylor’s not particularly chummy with Dolphins management at the moment. So the lads from Lambeau decided to make an “exploratory inquiry” with the men in Miami about the defensive Dancer.
And in Jason’s favor, there’s a couple of coaches on the Green Bay staff that can vouch for him.
Packers defensive coordinator Bob Sanders & defensive tackles coach Robert Nunn were both on the Dolphins’ staff earlier in the decade with Taylor. Although they say they don’t want to tell Packers GM Ted Thompson how to do his job, both coaches were complimentary of Taylor. As Nunn explained:
“Anytime you can get a guy of that caliber, you’d want to try to get him … All I know is that when I coached him, he was a great football player and a great person.”
But success in trading for Taylor depends on what the Dolphins want in return and what the Packers are willing to give up. From Rob Demovsky of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE:
The Dolphins are believed to be seeking a second-round draft pick but might settle for a third- or fourth-round pick. That’s a high price for a player who has said he may play only one more season.
Thompson wouldn’t offer Oakland any more than a fifth-round pick last offseason for receiver Randy Moss, so it’s probably a long shot that he’d be willing to offer much more than that for a one-year player with a high salary.
On the other hand, it would be good publicity for the Packers, bringing in a marquee player when they just lost their long-time headliner last March.
And who knows? As rumors swirl day after day about Favre’s unretirement, acquiring Taylor could be another reason Brett might come back to the Pack.
In the meantime, it sure is fun forecasting Favre’s future.

Kinda surprised we haven’t heard about Taylor going to the Giants. With Big Blue losing Strahan and Taylor’s desire to jump-start a film career, that just sounds like a win-win.
Strahan IS retiring, right? Right?
