Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly was arrested on felony drug possession charges in Houston last week. The 6-3, 312 pound Jolly has been a member of the Packers for two seasons.
It’s not exactly chopping up lines of coke in a parking lot, but Johnny Jolly was walking around with enough codeine for a small army.
Jolly, 25, was arrested July 8 in Houston for a possession of at least 200 grams of codeine, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. He’s free on $10,000 bail, according to court records.
Jolly is a professional athlete so he won’t get any jail time for this although Sheriff Goodell will probably drop a suspension on him.
Brett Favre, Jason Peter, and plenty more NFL players have suffered from addiction to painkillers. This doesn’t mean that Jolly has an addiction, but the violent and damaging nature of the game leaves the participants in need of relief. The Packers have their hands full with the Brett Favre situation so they don’t have much to offer on Johnny Jolly.
Late Saturday, a Packers official provided a statement to the Chronicle that read: “The Packers are aware of the report involving Johnny Jolly. This is a legal matter and we still are in the process of gathering information. We have no further comment at this time.”
