Maybe praying for Tim Tebow works after all. Certainly, any prayers for LSU coach Les Miles fell flat, as the Tigers were whacked 51-21 by Tebow’s Florida Gators in a match-up of the last two BCS national champions. At least Miles didn’t get struck by lightening, so maybe your prayers helped after all.
Florida went up 20-0 early, and after allowing LSU to close to 20-14 early in the third quarter, Tebow was able to steady the ship and the Gators rattled off 21 unanswered points to put the game well out of reach.
And what about Tigers’ defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois? You might remember that he added fuel to the fire of the rivalry this week by claiming that LSU would “try our best to take him out of the game“ if they had the chance.
Turns out he didn’t get the chance at all, as he missed the trip with a “groin injury.” One might suggest that’s a code phrase for “not having the balls to back up your words,” but that just seems cruel.
The win vaulted Florida back into the national title picture, while LSU is almost certainly done. Also taking a huge hit to their title dreams? Missouri, who fell 28-23 to Oklahoma State and have Texas next week. Of course Tigers’ head coach Gary Pinkel and QB Chase Daniel insisted after the game that they weren’t looking ahead to the Texas game and a possible No. 1 ranking. Right.
