Where else but Cleveland would fans be so fat and lazy as to have rigged up a couch with a motor to transport them between tailgate parties? OK, maybe Green Bay. Minnesota too. All right, Philly. And East Rutherford. And Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Detroit. That’s not the point.
The point is, Cleveland cops have had just about enough of the “Go-Kouch,” one inspired fan’s preferred method of transportation. Via BUSTED COVERAGE, Mike Meredith was ticketed last month for driving an unregistered vehicle, and having expired plates (yes, it has license plates.) But Cleveland fans, unlike the Browns, are not taking this lying down. Or, comfortably reclining, I suppose. (Video of the Go-Kouch in action, after the jump.)
According to Meredith,
He usually drives the “Go-Kouch” around the Municipal Parking Lot, hitting different tailgate parties. Meredith and a couple of buddies converted a riding mower into a mobile couch in 2005 because “I was wasting time walking around when I could be sitting here eating hot dogs and drinking beer.”
He never had any trouble, even being waved through the parking lot by officers, until he ran into one cop whose father was killed by a couch, I guess.
He got slapped with two tickets and, of course, a Browns loss. The following week, he rode around the Muny Lot with a coffee can and a poster board displaying the citations. Tailgaters gave him nearly $500 to cover the fines.
Meredith may opt to do community service instead of pay the fines, and donate the money to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As if the man wasn’t enough of a hero already.
