Go Get Your Weird Glasses: BCS Title Game in 3-D

So, the BCS Championship game is coming up in a few weeks. Oklahoma and Florida. Woooo. Got any plans for it yet? Maybe everyone’s meeting at the house of the friend who’s got the biggest HD TV or something? Pfft. Weak. Mediocre. Blase. HD is so 2008. The new hotness is 3D, and in 80 theaters across the country, that’ll be the only* way to experience the BCS Championship game.

3D glasses
(This will somehow be cool.)

This is by far the most ambitious roll-out of 3-D sports programming so far for 3Ality, a Burbank, CA company that just aired their first 3-D NFL game last week. That went to Los Angeles, New York, and Boston, and reviews were along the lines of “there are some glaring errors but JESUS CHRIST WOW HOLY SMOKING HELL YES MORE MORE MORE AAGHSJHSHKJSDKJG”.

One interesting note–if this all goes down well, it may accomplish what most Cleveland residents thought was utterly impossible: restore the Modell name. As DR. SATURDAY points out, 3Ality is run by David Modell, the son of former Browns/Ravens owner and all-around scourge Art Modell. Perhaps the Evil gene is recessive. I digress.

You can check where the nearest theater is here; the software will look about 300 miles away for some reason, because everyone loves to watch a game that finishes at 11 p.m., then drive for five hours. And despite what 3Ality tells you–”Hopefully there’s one in your neighborhood. (And in this case, “your neighborhood” could include anything within 200 miles — football in 3D is that good!)“–football in 3D is not that good. That would be completely impossible.

However, if there is a theater nearby, why not watch the game there? Scintillating live action unfolding in front of you, cheerleaders in 3D (this was a big plus for NBCSPORTS.COM), and Tim Tebow’s winning smile and perfect, bulging, sweat-caked biceps all like they’re right in front of you, asking to be caressed–wait, what?! I’m straight! Who is this? Prank call! Prank call! I’m gonna go lift weights ARRRGHHH!

*the only way if you want to be cool, anyway. It’s not like they’re taking it off the air otherwise.
