Glazer: I Didn’t Write Deleted Shanahan Web Piece

Last Monday I noted a Jay Glazer-bylined story on the Foxsports.com website that had apparently been completely deleted.  The piece examined the scenario that could lead to Mike Shanahan taking over as Redskins Coach as soon as this season.

Jay Glazer Mike Shanahan To The Redskins Story Why Was It Deleted From Foxsports.com?

(Glazer Tweet: Web story was “dummy post” he didn’t write)

At the time I was perplexed why the story was removed. But thanks to Glazer setting the record straight on Twitter this week, we now know what happened.

This week Glazer Tweeted:

Jay Glazer Tweets He Didn't Write Shanahan Storty On Foxsports.com Website

i reported sun skins CANNOT hire shanny perm during season bc Rooney Rule. dummy story w my name was posted stating opposite. total glitch

while everyone thinks shanny will be their next HC they CANNOT perm during season. plus, smarter for him to leverage another team vs skins

i’m clarifying this bc my dad asked me this morning. thx pop

From that we now know that the Glazer-bylined Shanahan story was not written by him and was deleted when it was found that he didn’t say what the story reported.

The obvious question is why Foxsports.com is running stories with Glazer’s byline written by someone else. I’m sure Fox wants to have high-profile bylines on the site, but it seems it would be more sensible to have a staffer reporting what Glazer said rather than trying to pass off a story as written by him.
