Next time your 17-year-old daughter asks if her basketball coach can spend the night in her room, use your better judgment and just say no. And if the coach promises to sleep on the floor, don’t believe her for a second.

A West St. Paul, MN, basketball coach has been arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct after carrying on a relationship with one of her players. Yep, they’re both women, so get the giggles out of your system now. There’s plenty else to giggle at.

The trouble came to light this weekend when a police officer inspected a suspicious car parked near the soccer field. Inside he found two women, one lying on top of the other. He became curious when he noticed one had a letter jacket from St. Croix Lutheran High School, so he checked the school directory and up popped the other woman in the car, teacher and coach Melissa Diana Koehn.

The girl turned out to be her student and player. A little investigation turned up that the two had been close since last year, but that a sexual relationship developed in August after Koehn took a leave of absence from school.

The girls’ parents allowed Koehn to stay overnight in the girl’s bedroom, but they did not know about the sexual relationship and they believed that Koehn was sleeping on the floor.

So I guess we can add women’s basketball to the list of youth sports you shouldn’t let your kids play.
