I don’t want to get an entire battle of the sexes started here, but while there are plenty of things women can do just as well as a man, there are still plenty of examples where they can’t. It works both ways as well, because there are just as many things men can’t do as well as women, for example, we men haven’t quite mastered that whole giving birth thing. One of the things women can’t do as well as their male counterparts is play football, at least, they can’t play with men.
The sport is just way too violent for females to try and compete with men. I thought this was a pretty obvious fact of life, but apparently I give other people way too much credit. For instance, there’s this gym coach in Queens that thinks all the kids in his gym class should play tackle football with each other. With no pads. On concrete. Maybe a lawsuit will help change his mind?
From the NEW YORK POST:
A Queens girl who was forced to play football in gym class last year was hurt after another student tackled her to the concrete, according to a lawsuit her family has filed against the city.
Samantha Clay, of Jamaica, was 10 years old when a gym teacher at IS 5 in Elmhurst told the class they were playing football - but without any padding, the family says in court papers filed Oct. 6 in Queens Supreme Court.
Samantha, who was overruled when she told the teacher she didn’t want to play, fractured her left arm in the fall, lawyer Paul Campson said.
See, when I was in grade school and junior high, we played football as well. Of course, we had a gym coach who wasn’t stupid enough to force the girls to play with us, and they one time he did he had the intelligence to make the girls wear flags. He also had the foresight to take us outside and have us play on the grass.
What I really don’t understand is why Samantha was forced to play if she didn’t want to. It’s gym class for Christ’s sake. If she doesn’t want to play, but you want her to get her exercise anyway, have her run laps. See how easily that problem is solved?

I don't understand why they're playing tackle football on concrete.

Somehow this article seems a little sexist.

She wasn't ready for some football. Hank Williams Jr. is very disappointed.

Something is not right here. It is my bet that it was touch football, #1, and that it was a coed class, #2. #3, I'd like to see the girls grade in PE before all of this happened.
