Gina Carano will finally return to the activity that earned her initial fame now that she’s been able to find a new home to ply her craft in. (No, her craft isn’t Gladiating.)Â (No, it’s not nude weigh-ins.)Â (No, it’s not drinking and rolling around with other girls. You’re not even trying now.)
(Remember when she did this professionally?)
No, she’ll finally climb back into the arena and fight another woman for cash and prizes. Carano, who has fought only once in the last year, has been biding her time while looking for another MMA organization once EliteXC couldn’t choke down a Slice of profits big enough to stay in business. Now she’s found a new company (Strikeforce) and a new opponent that has the best chance of anyone to mar Carano’s perfect MMA record.
On August 15th, Strikeforce will host an event in San Jose that will finally bring together Carano and Christiane Santos (lovingly referred to as “Cyborg“) in a battle of the two best-known women MMA fighters in a weight class specially created for them.
Of course, even that might not be enough. Santos didn’t make weight in her last fight and Carano has plenty of problems with her weight, especially since she actually enters the ring roughly every Olympic season.
